Billecart-Salmon

Maison Billecart-Salmon, founded in 1818, is a traditional champagne dynasty, currently run by the 7th generation, Matthieu Roland-Billecart.

In addition to their own 100 hectares of vines, Billecart-Salmon purchases grapes from 40 crus in Champagne within a 20km radius of Épernay, bringing their total vineyard area to 300 hectares. For over 200 years, the family's guiding principle has been: 'Prefer quality, strive for excellence'.

Their champagnes are elegant, aromatic, and perfectly balanced.

Philosophy

In its constant pursuit of excellence, Maison Billecart-Salmon practices cultivation methods aimed at protecting the environment and promoting biodiversity. With a commitment to maintaining the positive cycle between winemaker and nature, Maison Billecart-Salmon has long been dedicated to a responsible approach to viticulture. Its environmental philosophy is simple: respect for the terroir for the creation of great wines. Long before receiving the "High Environmental Value" (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne" (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) certifications in 2017, Maison Billecart-Salmon was already committed to managing its vineyards in a way that respects nature. Beyond this mere approach, it is a mindset where only continuous innovation makes long-term progress possible.

The story

Maison Billecart-Salmon was founded in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon. Since then, it has steadily built its reputation and today enjoys international acclaim: its champagnes, including some mythical icons that nevertheless remain elegantly understated, delight people all over the world.

This over 200-year history is rooted in the house's 100 hectares of its own vineyards, supplemented by grapes sourced from a total of 300 hectares across 40 vineyard sites in Champagne. Most of the grapes used for vinification come from within a 20 km radius of Épernay. From this area originate the Grand Crus made from Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay grapes, which are sourced from the Champagne regions of Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley, and the Côte des Blancs.

Non-vintage Champagnes take three to four years to fully develop – twice as long as the appellation's standard period – while vintage cuvées wait ten years before revealing their full maturity. This extended time, combined with the house's exceptional expertise, is what gives Billecart-Salmon Champagne its true nobility.
